First Presidency names new Choir President

Since 2000 Mac Christensen has served as president of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  When Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the time, asked him to serve in the role he responded, “President, I can’t sing.”  “You don’t have to know how to sing,” said President Hinckley. What Christensen knew how to do was direct a business, having built one of the most successful clothing chains in the Intermountain area.
In a recent letter, the First Presidency announced that Ronald B. Jarrett, former member of the Choir for eight years and former assistant to President Christensen for three, has been called to fill the position beginning August 1, 2012.
