For the next six weeks, the Choir office will be accepting applications for openings for 2014. Music director Mack Wilberg said, "We are looking for accomplished singer-musicians in all voice parts. We encourage experienced performers who want to dedicate their time to serve in this way to apply." The deadline is August 15, 2013. Applicants must be between the ages of 25 and 55 and live within 100 miles of Temple Square. Because the Choir acts as an official ambassador for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, all applicants must be members of the Church in good standing.
The application process requires several steps, including sending a formal application, a bishop's letter of recommendation, and a voice tape; taking a music theory test; and, finally, having an in-person audition. Those who feel they meet the criteria are encouraged to apply. Those selected are initially admitted to the Temple Square Chorale, and, after their Chorale and Choir School training is completed, they may sing with the Choir. For details, click here.
Special Note for This Year's Auditions: The date by which someone must have turned 55 has been changed from August 15, 2013, to April 30, 2014. Those impacted by this change are still encouraged to apply this year as a one-time exception will be made.
