Relief Society 2015 (173 years) - Make the birthday celebration something to be enjoyed

  • If you’re planning a Relief Society celebration in your ward or branch, we’ve got some great ideas from blogs around to help strengthen bonds between Relief Society sisters.

For all in the first time........

The Relief Society is a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints organization for women. The Relief Society accepts women who are 18 and older, and younger women who are single mothers or married. The purpose is to give women an official role in the Mormon church, increase faith, instill a sense of charity and strengthen families. Each year, Relief Society women throw birthday parties for the organization.
Another way to highlight Relief Society history is to share the video that was shown during the General Relief Society Meeting of 2005. This video beautifully explains the reason for organizing the Relief Society and the power behind the organization. After watching the video, invite a priesthood leader to share some statements Joseph Smith made about the purpose and potential of the Relief Society. Gather some statements from the brethren in the ward on how the Relief Society contributes to the purpose of the gospel.  Share them and lead a discussion exploring what the sisters can do to help the Relief Society live up to this great potential.Set up a specific theme for a party that extends beyond dinner. If you have an overall Mexican theme, ask the women to dress in brightly colored dresses and play Mexican music. Serve chips and salsa. For a spring feeling, make the celebration all about flowers. Decorate the area with real and fake flowers or host the celebration in a garden. Have all guests participate in creating their own floral arrangements. Some ideas around:

Dinner

A birthday dinner is a chance for all Relief Society women to showcase their kitchen skills. Set it up as a potluck with a theme. You can use picnic food as a theme, or ethnic food, such as Mexican. Make the setting go with the theme.

Invitation

This is a sample of a good and warm invitation that I like

Remember, we celebrate the organization of the Relief Society to remind the sisters of its divine mission. Whether you use these suggestions or not, be sure that each sister leaves your celebration with a renewed sense of purpose as a sister in this inspired organization as a daughter of God (KATE ENSIGN-LEWIS)

What I had learned in 2012 at Women's Conference (handouts) as requested

I had a requested about this session Workshop at 2012 BYU Women's Conference. Instead  e-mail I would like share with you, too. It is a great idea for the Relief Society Activity/Presentation and all handouts are ready to use. Enjoy it!

The class entitled "Come, Sit By Us!"  was given by Sisters Jenni Moody, Kara Jeffrey and Debbie Weaver.
..."We are all part of a worldwide circle of sisterhood. Together as sisters, we can uplift, inspire, and strengthen one another. Through the power of the true love of Christ, we can help sisters know that they are daughters of God and love them. We can help sisters to have that special feeling of knowing that they too are part of this wonderful circle of sisters when we say, “Come–Sit by us"

Humor from "The Extra Mile" - All about dance

Ben’s failed attempt to make asking a girl to dance less awkward …Would you like to dance without any obligation to date or marry after a mission? (Jon Clark)

“To paraphrase the scriptures, ‘It is not good that man should dance alone.’” (Arie Vand De Graaff)
