New Format Helps Sisters Improve as Visiting Teachers

Just a Reminder!
July 2010 Relief Society sisters and subscribers to the Liahona and Ensign magazines will find a change to the traditional Visiting Teaching Message format.

“We want every visiting teacher to understand that visiting teaching is a call from the Lord and accept her assignment to love, serve, teach, and minister to another sister with that in mind,” said Julie B. Beck, Relief Society general president.

The new message format will help sisters understand the purpose of Relief Society, teach principles to help sisters live the purpose, provide a historical perspective, and offer suggestions on how women can more effectively watch over and strengthen other sisters.

“The Visiting Teaching Message is a tool in the hands of a visiting teacher. As she studies the messages with her sisters in mind, she will know what to share with them and what to do for them,” Sister Beck said.

On the following page is a sample of the new Visiting Teaching Message, with explanations of its new features.

Instructions Instructions help visiting teachers know how to teach and apply the message.

Relief Society Purposes The Relief Society purposes were added to remind sisters of the responsibilities of Relief Society: to increase faith and personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes, and seek out and help those in need.

Message The central message will now offer specific and timely counsel directly from the Relief Society general presidency.

From the Scriptures These scriptural references will help enhance the study, teaching, and personal application of the message.

Ministering Question The purpose of this question is to help visiting teachers act on inspiration to better serve the sisters they teach.

Application Question This question is meant to prompt action on the part of each individual Relief Society sister and help her apply the message to her own life.

From Our History By reading of the noble legacy of Relief Society, sisters can draw connections between the organization that existed in the early Church and the current Relief Society program. “We are inspired by their sacrifices and desire to take our part in building the Lord’s kingdom in our season of service,” Sister Beck said.

Assim nao vale!

Assim nao vale.

A Father's Day video for fathers and their children produced by White Wing Films

A beautiful Thank You message to all fathers for Father's Day

A Father's Day proclamation by President Obama

June 20, 2010, Los Angeles Times
From the first moments of life, the bond forged between a father and a child is sacred. Whether patching scraped knees or helping with homework, dads bring joy, instill values, and introduce wonders into the lives of their children. Father's Day is a special time to honor the men who raised us, and to thank them for their selfless dedication and love.
Fathers are our first teachers and coaches, mentors and role models. They push us to succeed, encourage us when we are struggling, and offer unconditional care and support. Children and adults alike look....
...up to them and learn from their example and perspective. The journey of fatherhood is both exhilarating and humbling -- it is an opportunity to model who we want our sons and daughters to become, and to build the foundation upon which they can achieve their dreams.
Fatherhood also carries enormous responsibilities. An active, committed father makes a lasting difference in the life of a child. When fathers are not present, their children and families cope with an absence government cannot fill. Across America, foster and adoptive fathers respond to this need, providing safe and loving homes for children facing hardships. Men are also making compassionate commitments outside the home by serving as mentors, tutors, or big brothers to young people in their community. Together, we can support the guiding presence of male role models in the lives of countless young people who stand to gain from it.
Nurturing families come in many forms, and children may be raised by a father and mother, a single father, two fathers, a step-father, a grandfather, or caring guardian. We owe a special debt of gratitude for those parents serving in the United States Armed Forces and their families, whose sacrifices protect the lives and liberties of all American children. For the character they build, the doors they open, and the love they provide over our lifetimes, all our fathers deserve our unending appreciation and admiration.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, in accordance with a joint resolution of the Congress approved April 24, 1972, as amended (36 U.S.C. 109), do hereby proclaim June 20, 2010, as Father's Day.
I direct the appropriate officials of the Government to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on this day, and I call upon all citizens to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities. Let us honor our fathers, living and deceased, with all the love and gratitude they deserve.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this eighteenth day of June, in the year of our Lord two thousand ten, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-fourth.

Oh my! We couldn't wait till Father's Day!

In this month Woman's Day Magazine  has that wonderful-delicious-easy Coconut Cream Cake Recipe.

1/2 pint (1 cup) heavy cream
3 Tbsp confectioners’ sugar
1/2 tsp coconut extract
1 store-bought 8-in. angel food cake
1 1/4 cups unsweetened flake coconut

1. Put heavy cream, confectioners’ sugar and extract in a medium bowl. Beat with electric mixer until soft peaks form when beaters are lifted.

Morning Motivation!

Maybe you already know about this.
But one sister sent it to me that I really enjoyed. Let's share!!!
 It is called:

When I woke up this morning lying in bed, I was asking myself:
What are some of the secrets of success in life?
I found the answer right there,  in my very room.
The Fan said - BE COOL!
The Roof said - AIM HIGH!
The Window said - SEE THE WORLD!
The Calendar said - BE UP-TO-DATE

I Believe in Christ

performed by The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, with images by prominent Latter-day Saint artists.

“I Believe in Christ”
by Elder Bruce R. McConkie [1915-1985]

I believe in Christ; he is my King!
With all my heart to him I’ll sing;
I’ll raise my voice in praise and joy,
In grand Amens my tongue employ.

I believe in Christ; he is God’s Son.
On earth to dwell his soul did come.
He healed the sick; the dead he raised.
Good works were his; his name be praised.

I believe in Christ; oh blessed name!
As Mary’s Son he came to reign
’Mid mortal men, his earthly kin,
To save them from the woes of sin.

I believe in Christ, who marked the path,
Who did gain all his Father hath,
Who said to men: “Come, follow me,
That ye, my friends, with God may be.”

I believe in Christ—my Lord, my God!
My feet he plants on gospel sod.
I’ll worship him with all my might;
He is the source of truth and light.

I believe in Christ; he ransoms me.
From Satan’s grasp he sets me free,
And I shall live with joy and love
In his eternal courts above.

I believe in Christ; he stands supreme!
From him I’ll gain my fondest dream;
And while I strive through grief and pain,
His voice is heard: “Ye shall obtain.”

I believe in Christ; so come what may,
With him I’ll stand in that great day
When on this earth he comes again
To rule among the sons of men.

Valentine's Day Traditions

If there's one holiday that's become a worldwide hit, it's Valentine's Day.

In Brazil, the Valentine's Day is called Dia dos Namorados (lit. "Day of the Enamored", or "Boyfriends'/Girlfriends' Day") is celebrated on June 12, when couples exchange gifts, chocolates, cards and flower bouquets. This day was chosen probably because it is the day before the Festa Junina (Saint Anthony's day), known there as the marriage saint, when traditionally many single women perform popular rituals, called simpatias, in order to find a good husband or boyfriend.

On Malaysia's day of love, which falls on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, women write their phone numbers on oranges before throwing them into the closest river with hopes that the man of their dreams might pick one up. Fruit vendors often collect the oranges, which are considered a lucky fruit, and resell them at the market—phone numbers and all! Can't you see a romantic comedy flick starting with a guy finding a "call me" orange in his bag of groceries?

You can say "I love you" with something delicious and brighten someone's Valentine's Day with cute cards. The sample above it a vintage sample (that I love the most). It's easy to share a sweet Valentine greetings.
I have some ideas, samples, recipes  and others here. Check it out and have a
Happy Valentine's Day!
