Church Honored for Service on Historic Battleship in Hawaii

The USS Missouri Memorial Association is recognizing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for its many hours of volunteer service performed by members and missionaries on the battleship at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. For the past 10 years, missionaries from the Church have provided service aboard the famous decommissioned United States Navy battleship known as the “Mighty Mo.” The association presented a plaque made out of the ship’s original teakwood deck toElder Daniel L. Johnson of the First Quorum of the Seventy on behalf of President Thomas S. Monsonin a ceremony aboard the ship on December 5, 2014.

2014 First Presidency’s Christmas Devotional

The First Presidency invites Church members and their friends to participate in the First Presidency’s Christmas devotional broadcast on Sunday, December 7, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. mountain standard time.
The program originating from the Conference Center will include Christmas messages by President Henry B. Eyring,First Counselor in the First Presidency; Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, ElderRichard J. Maynes of the Presidency of the Seventy, and Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson, Young Women general president.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We are pleased to announce this new Church email newsletter that we will regularly publish and share with members throughout the world. This newsletter is part of our effort to find more effective ways to communicate with our growing global membership in order to share timely and valuable messages that can strengthen our love for Jesus Christ, for our families, and for those around us.
Newsletters will be translated into 10 languages and sent to Church members who have email addresses listed in their LDS Account contact information. We desire to be respectful of members’ needs and choices; therefore, it will be easy to unsubscribe (see below).

Church releases 'He Is The Gift' Christmas video, #ShareTheGift campaign

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released its Christmas video,  "He is the Gift",” Tuesday. The video encourages church members to remember the true meaning of Christmas and share it with others using the hashtag #ShareTheGift.

Members can visit a website the church created that contains the "He is the Gift" video for  "to fill the same role the angels filled by sharing the good news of Christ's birth with those around them" (Elder Bednar - Ensign Dec 2014), as well as suggestions for how visitors can share the true meaning of Christmas on social media.

Pope Francis Greets President Eyring

Following his address, Pope Francis warmly individually greeted and shook hands with several faith leaders including President Henry B. Eyring of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. President Eyring will address the gathering Tuesday. Read more  here

LDS Church announces changes to religious education curriculum

Beginning fall 2015, changes to religious education graduation requirements for students attending universities and institutes owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will include four new “cornerstone” courses.
